Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will preside over a conference of chief ministers in New Delhi on Monday to discuss issues like Naxal violence, activities of Pakistan-based terror outfits and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast.

Dr Singh is likely to discuss measures to be adopted to maintain law and order, with the chief ministers.

Besides, a separate meeting of the chief ministers of seven Naxal-affected states will be held later in the day to specifically discuss the situation arising out of Maoist violence.

The conference will review the information collection system -- both technical and human intelligence -- its proper sharing and necessary action, modernisation of police forces, procurement of arms and ammunitions, filling up of vacancies besides providing training to security forces.
