The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Shopian rape and murder case Thursday evening raided the Pulwama district hospital and seized vital records.

South Kashmir Pulwama district is adjacent to Shopian where 17-year old Asiya Jan and her 22-year-old sister-in-law Neelofar Jan were raped and murdered and whose second autopsy was conducted by a doctor at Pulwama hospital.

The SIT, headed by deputy inspector general of police, Rauful Hassan, raided the hospital premises and after a search is learnt to have seized records relating to the incident.

Thursday evening raid followed the report from the central forensic science laboratory which had found the samples fudged.

The disclosure of fudging of the vital samples had caused uproar in the assembly with members cutting across party lines demanding an impartial enquiry into the tampering of evidence.

The state government had yesterday decided to hand over the investigation to CBI after permission from the state high court where the case is sub-judice and coming up for next hearing on August 18.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement said the 'decision of the state government to transfer the Shopian case investigation to CBI was yet another attempt to cover up the brutality'
