Assembly by-polls in 7 states on September 10

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced by-elections on September 10 to fill up 20 seats in the assemblies in seven states, most of which fell vacant from their members getting elected to the Lok Sabha.

Gujarat and Bihar has the highest number of seven assembly constituencies having the by-elections, followed by two in Madhya Pradesh and one each in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim.

Nominations for these seats close on August 24, scrutiny next day and withdrawals allowed up to August 27. Polling will take place on September 10, Thursday, while the counting will be only four days later on September 14.

Seven vacancies in the Gujarat assembly to be filled up are from Chotila, Jasdan, Dhoraji, Kodinar, Dehgam, Sami and Danta. Two constituencies that go to polls in Madhya Pradesh are Gohad in Bhind district and Tendukheda. In Andhra Pradesh, the by-poll is for the lone Tekkali constituency.
