Delhi: Wanted criminal nabbed after encounter

The Delhi police scored a major victory on Wednesday when it arrested Sondeep Chetania, accused in different murder cases across the city.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rohini, Om Prakash.

"The matter is still under investigations and the moment we get more details we would get back to you," a senior police official told rediff.com.

Chetania was involved in different murder cases, including double murder case in Amar Colony in 2008, one in Vasant Vihar and others, the official added.

"We got a tip off that Sondeep Chetania was hiding in a house in Rohini, and the moment he realised that he had been surrounded, he opened fire in his bid to escape. But the police did not let him get out and managed to catch him after a brief encounter," the official added.

Chetania was involved in a score of other heinous crimes and had been wanted by both Delhi as well as Haryana police.

He was carrying a hefty Rs 1 lakh on his head.

Delhi Police Commissioer Y S Dadwal later congratulated ACP Om Prakash and his valiant crew, who took part in the operations.
