Mayawati moves court to expel 12 BSP MLAsFormer Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati on Monday filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court demanding expulsion of 12 party legislators. Mayawati's counsel Umesh Chandra filed the petition on her behalf, seeking action against the MLAs under the anti-defection law for having defied the party whip on the floor of the assembly. In her petition, Mayawati questioned the validity of the speaker's act by showing the 12 members to have voted in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Kalyan Singh during the trust motion on October 21. The petition also demanded that the court direct assembly Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi to take a decision on the disqualification within a time frame. A Central Bureau of Investigation should be ordered to probe the alleged horse-trading by the Kalyan Singh government to win the vote of confidence, Mayawati said in the petition. The speaker had fixed November 21 as the date for hearing the petitions filed before him in this regard. |
