Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to maintain peace in the wake of Saturday's serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and promised a thorough inquiry into the terror attack.

"The act of terrorism is intended to disturb peace and harmony in the state. Those who want to destroy peace would never succeed in their intentions," Modi said.

Among the places where a low-intensity explosion was set off was Maninagar, Modi's constituency.

Modi won the last assembly elections from Maninagar with an impressive margin on the promise plank of a safe and prosperous state.

Modi announced compensation of Rs five lakhs to the families of those killed in today's serial blasts.

The government has also announced compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Modi convened an emergency meeting at the police headquarter in Gandhinagar and reviewed the security situation.
