Ahmedabad blasts toll 55

An eight-year-old boy, one of the injured in the serial blasts in Ahmedabad, died at a city hospital taking the death toll in the terror attacks to 55.

The boy Mohammad Israr and his mother Shugra Bano were injured in the blast at Narol Circle in Ahmedabad and were undergoing treatment at Vadilal Sarabhai hospital, sources at the hospital said on Friday.

"Israr was kept on life support system from the very first day. Though his heart was functioning, he was practically brain dead," doctors at the hospital said.

Israr succumbed to his injuries late on Thursday night.

On Thursday, a 12-year-old boy Rohan Vyas, who was seriously injured along with his father and younger brother in the blasts, also succumbed to his injuries at the Civil Hospital.

Rohan was admitted along with his father and brother at the hospital's Trauma Centre, which was targeted by terrorists on July 26.

A total of 23 people were killed in the attack on the hospital, the highest number of casualties on a day when serial blasts rocked the Ahmedabad.

Rohan's father Dushyant, who was a laboratory assistant at the hospital, died soon after he was admitted while his younger brother Yash (9) is still undergoing treatment at the special burns ward.

Meanwhile, officials of the district collectorate have started disbursing compensation cheques to victim's families.

"Till yesterday we have disbursed cheques to families of 33 victims who died during the blasts, while over 100 people who were injured have been given compensation," District Collector Harit Shukla said.
