Shortly after his release following a court order, Lashkar-e-Tayiba founder Hafeez Muhammed Saeed was re-arrested for a two-month period and lodged in Lahore jail.
Saeed's lawyer Nazir Ahmed Ghazi told PTI from Lahore on Tuesday that his client was released for an hour on Monday following the Lahore High Court's order but was arrested again from his residence later in the evening.
"He was brought from the Shiekhpura guest house where he was earlier lodged and released in Lahore. But he was detained for a two months period once again an hour later," Ghazi said, adding, "He was brought home and taken to a local jail."
Ghazi said he will take up the case in the high court again.
The court had on Monday ordered Saeed's release saying that his detention on the ground that he was a threat to public peace was illegal.
Justice Akhtar Shabbir who heard the writ petition filed by Saeed's wife on Monday quashed the detention order stating that the government had failed to provide any proof or strong reasons for his detention. The court also held that the government had failed to provide strong reasons for his arrest and his detention on August nine was based on speculation that he could disturb peace.
Saeed who currently heads a non governmental organization named Jamat-ud-Dawa, was arrested on August 10 under the maintenance of public order on the ground that he was likely to disturb peace during his planned rally coinciding with Pakistan's Independence Day on August 14.
