Bahujan Samaj Party on Wednesday threatened to withdraw its support to the Congress led United Progressive Alliance government at the centre if they did not change their attitude and policies towards the Dalits and did not fulfil the promises they made for the welfare of Dalits.

This was stated by Mayawati president of the BSP, at a state level rally of the party.

The rally had been organised to focus the government's attention and to force them to implement the promise of compulsory reservation in private sector, clearance of the backlog in the matter of reservation in government jobs and providing employment to educated youth of all castes and classes all over the country.

Mayawati pooh-poohed the Lok Jan Shakti Party president and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan's stand that he will back a Muslim chief minister for Bihar and asked as to what he would do in the event of the non-availability of a Muslim amongst the elected candidates of his LJP.

She categorically said that her party would contest the Bihar assembly election on their own.

She said that the BSP would not enter into any alliance or understanding, friendly or otherwise with any other party.

She claimed that the BSP had always increased its vote bank and its base wherever the party had fought elections independently.
