Rajasthan high court has stayed glorification of sati in the five temples of Jhunjhunu.

The state government had filed an appeal against the order of the lower court of Jhunjhunu under which the five trustees of the sati temple were allowed to perform pujas in the state temples.

Arguing the case on behalf of the state government, advocate B L Avasthi told the court that the lower court, by allowing people to profess different deities, had indirectly allowed glorification of sati under different names.

Justice Ashok Parihar on Wednesday issued notices to the trustees of the five temples and in the meanwhile, directed them to refrain from doing pujas in the temples, which amounted glorification of sati.
