Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party president Ramvilas Paswan on Thursday said that the students' union owing allegiance to his party would move Supreme Court against Allahabad High Court order quashing the Aligarh Muslim University Amendment Act (1981), which provided AMU with a minority institution status.

Paswan told newspersons in Patna that the AMU was a minority institution as per the constitution of the country. "We are opposed to any new arrangement that violates the existing reservation of seats for Muslims in any minority institution," he said.

Paswan said that some student leaders of AMU approached him after the court order. He said that Muslim students have a right to reservation in minority institutions. "This right should not taken away from them," he said.
