A day after pledging to abide by the Shariat, a woman who had alleged she was raped by her father-in-law, failed to appear before a religious court to present her case on Friday.

"Neither Imrana nor her parents appeared before the court," Mufti Zulfiqar, one of the nine members of the court, told PTI.

The court, which has been asked by the Islamic seminary Darul-Uloom Deoband to decide what relationship will now exist between Imrana and her in-laws was, therefore, not in a position to start proceedings, Mufti Zulfikar said.

No fresh summons were issued to the victim by the court, which also did not hear other pending cases.

The Shariat court is convened on the first Friday of every month.

Meanwhile, the judicial remand of Imrana's father-in-law, Mohammed Ali, was extended by a fortnight on Thursday.

The Darul-Uloom Deoband had, in an edict, asked Imrana to live with her father-in-law following the rape.

Imrana, in full media glare on Thursday, had said she would abide by the Shariat laws.
