Chilly winds blowing from Rajasthan added to the shivering cold spell in the national Delhi Friday as minimum temperature hovered around 5° C, a good 3° C below normal.

Adding to the woes of the early morning travellers, a thin blanket of fog enveloped the city, reducing visibility to as low as 500 mt.

The minimum temperature was 5.3° C while the maximum was recorded at 21.9°  C, 2° below normal, the Meteorological Department said in Delhi.

The mercury had plunged sharply Thursday with the minimum temperature dipping to 3.6° C, making it the second coldest day of the season.

Cold wave conditions have gripped many parts of north India and cold winds blowing from Rajasthan have brought in that extra chill in the weather Friday, Met office said.
