The Gujarat government has submitted the Action Taken Report on the recommendations of the National Human Rights Commission in connection with compensation and rehabilitation of post-Godhra riot victims to the Nanavati-Shah Commission.

However, the contents of the ATR could not be made open yet, Commission sources said in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The Commission had in its last sitting told the Gujarat government to submit the ATR as soon as possible and had fixed December 9 as the next date for hearing.

The ATR was sought for after the Commission's terms of references were expanded wherein the directives and recommendations of the NHRC could be sought.

The NHRC had in its detailed report indicted the Gujarat government for failing to protect riot witnesses.

Moreover, a 2004 survey indicated that more than 2000 riot-hit families had not returned to their original residences.

The NHRC had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into five riot cases as also the Godhra train carnage case.
