Huge arms haul in Bangladesh

The para-military Bangladesh Rifles seized a huge cache of arms in southeastern region of the country, report agencies.

According to the Daily Star, a tip-off led to a BDR raid in the hilly area of Bandarban, the southernmost district of the country bordering Myanmar, and the recovery of the arms abandoned by the gun runners. No arrests were reported.

The haul includes seven 9mm sub-machine carbines with 37 magazines, eight 9mm Sten guns with 19 magazines,ten 303 rifles, two locally made guns, four .303 rifle barrels, 7,199 bullets of AK47 rifle, 2,700 bullets of 7.62mm rifle and 2,400bullets of 9mm pistol.

No arrests were reported.

Delhi worried over Bangla arms haul

There was a similar seizure of a huge amount of arms and explosives from the same region in September.

Arms and drugs are routinely smuggled across the porous 4,400 km border that Bangladesh shares with India and Myanmar.
