A 21-year-old tourist from Denmark was on Wednesday rescued by the police after a dramatic chase on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway.

Thomas Jensen was abducted on March 8 from Jaipur by a local gang, which demanded a ransom of  $15,000 from his family in Denmark for his freedom, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jaipur range) Ajit Singh told rediff.com.

Police learnt about the abduction on Tuesday when Jensen's family contacted friends in Delhi and Jaipur after receiving frantic calls from him seeking money.

Police intercepted the car in which the abductors were taking Jensen from Chomu town to Dudu town after a chase that ended in a police vehicle ramming into the abductors' vehicle.

All the nine members of the gang, all having past criminal records, have been arrested, police officials said.

Jensen appeared somewhat disoriented when police rescued him. However, he was unharmed.

He was sent to Delhi from where he will head home to Denmark.
