SAARC summit from January 11: Pakistan

Pakistan on Wednesday announced that the next South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit will be held in Islamabad from January 11 to 13.

A foreign ministry statement said members of the seven-nation grouping were informed of the dates in August.

Disputing India's contention that the dates have not been given, foreign office spokesman Aziz Ahmad Khan said Indian officials are trying to create confusion in a matter that is quite clear.

India has maintained that a decision on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's participation at the summit will be finalised once the dates are announced.
