Benazir holding secret talks with Musharraf: MMA

The Muthahida Majlis-e-Amal, an amalgam of six hardline religious parties, on Thursday accused former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto of trying to strike a 'deal' with the military regime headed by President Pervez Musharraf.

While criticising Musharraf's decision to defer the sitting of the newly elected National Assembly by a week, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the vice-president of the MMA, said Bhutto was playing a 'double game' with his alliance and attempting to strike a 'bargain' deal with the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League-Qaid-e-Azam.

In an interview to the BBC on Wednesday, Ahmed, also the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, said leaders of the Bhutto-led Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians attempted to strike a deal with the government to back to form a coalition government.

He alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians refused to stake claim to form the government along with the MMA, even though they reached a deal for the posts of prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker two days ago.
