One Gulab Shaikh, who was injured in stone-pelting by violent mobs on Tuesday, died early on Wednesday while an unidentified driver of a goods vehicle was set afire by miscreants at Pimpalgaon Golai, five km from Jamner, police said adding the situation was tense but under control.
Three persons, including a five-month-old child, were killed and 23 injured on Tuesday in the violence and subsequent police firing following clashes between two groups over the arrest of a person on June 15 for his alleged involvement in desecration of a Hanuman idol.
Police fired eight rounds to disperse the mob, which set fire to shops and houses at Gandhi Chowk, Shrirampeth Pachora, Nagarkhana, Mahavir Marg and Jamnerpura localities.
Girish Mahajan, a BJP MLA, who was detained by the police on Tuesday night for his alleged role in triggering the riots, was let off early on Wednesday, police said.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Manikrao Thakre, who visited the riot-affected areas on Wednesday morning, ordered a magisterial enquiry to ascertain the cause of the disturbances.
He urged people to remain calm and assist the local administration in restoring normalcy, official sources said.
The government would pay Rs 200,000 as compensation to the kin of the dead, Thakre said.
