Suspected US citizens detained in Pakistan

Pakistan on Monday said it had detained two suspected American citizens who were trying to cross over into its tribal areas from Afghanistan.

"Some people have been detained by our agencies... I was told probably two of them are American passport holders," foreign office spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan said in Islamabad.

"They were trying to cross over from Afghanistan into our tribal areas," he said.

Khan said he did not have "details beyond that" and added that the matter was being investigated.

He said Pakistani authorities were carrying out the probe, but the country was sharing information with the United States.
