Powell ends India visit by meeting Vajpayee, Advani

United States Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday rounded of his short visit to India with meetings with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.

During his 30-minute meeting with Vajpayee before emplaning for Pakistan, the two sides discussed their perceptions on the current Indo-Pak situation besides agreeing on taking forward the new momentum in Indo-US relations, official sources said.

Emerging from his meeting with Advani, Powell told reporters, "We discussed Kashmir. We discussed the situation on the Line of Control, the need for free and fair elections in J&K and the need for international visitors to go there".

Earlier, Powell had a two-hour long discussion with External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha on Saturday night and also a meeting with National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra.
