The National Conference has taken strong exception to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh move to press for trifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
On Thursday, a RSS delegation led by Madan Das Devi had met Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and asked the Centre to raise the issue of J&K trifurcation, when the issue of autonomy to the state is taken up for discussion.
In response to the RSS move, National Conference Member of Parliament, Ali Mohammed Naiyk, told rediff.com: "If the Centre takes note of the demand of the RSS, then the National Conference would state what it must."
He, however, expressed confidence that the pressure tactics of the RSS would not work.
"The Deputy Prime Minister Advani has already made it clear that the Union government does not approve of the plan for trifurcation of the state. But we would wait and watch. Any delegation can meet the home minister and place their demand, but what is important is the action of the government on those demands," he added.
He described the RSS move as contrary to the autonomy resolution passed by the state assembly.
"The Centre has appointed (former law minister Arun) Jaitley for holding talks on the autonomy issue and not to decide on trifurcation of the state. In our autonomy resolution there are provisions of providing autonomy to other regions like Jammu and Ladakh," he added.
Trifurcation of J&K would have dangerous fallout in rest of the country as well, he warned.
