Since the terrorist attack on Parliament in December last, the Indian Army has been moblised on the border with Pakistan as part of New Delhi's 'coercive diplomacy'.

But the seven months since have not been incident-free. Apart from the normal shelling across the borders, we have had Kaluchak, where for the first time terrorists gunned down members of soldiers' families, the killing of Hurriyat leader Abdul Ghani Lone and, of course, the latest outrage near Jammu where 27 civilians were gunned down.

So has the government's coercive diplomacy failed, despite international assurances that Pakistan will rein in its dogs of war? In the face of Islamabad's recalcitrance, has New Delhi painted itself into a corner by deploying forces that it had no intention of using?

Is war with Pakistan now the only way out?

Your Views:Yes we are postponing the inevitable war. For how long do we allow innocent men, women and children to be slaughtered like this? Don't we as a nation have any self respect? We have to eradicate Pakistan... for that is the only way peace can have a chance in the sub continent. The strike against Pak should be swift, forceful and heavy... they should have little to no time to react.

Your Views:The government I think does not have its options or views clearly set. They are merely beating about the bush and start making big issues every time there is a massacre and then they cool down after some time. Are they playing a game of some sort? Why don't they finish things once and for all?

Your Views:No. War is not a solution. Even if we conquer Pakistan, what next? Do we bring it under Indian rule? Would we be free from terrorism? War is not a solution at all. Sadly though, there is no solution in the near future that would be acceptable to both sides. The only way to threaten Pakistan would be to cut all import-export and any commerce activities.

Your Views:No, I feel war is not the solution to Kashmir. War is the last option to Kashmir, but we must remember that Gen Musharaf has made a mockery of all the tall promises he made on January 12 regarding banning of terrorists. Secondly nations like US, France & pro Pak nations shold be tackled in a different way. On 11-9-01 the US was attacked, who were the people behind it? When it cannnot catch a single Osama what moral right does it have to advise India to have patience? A terrorist act is gruesome and more much barbaric than just murder. Pakistan should be taught such a lesson for the future that it dare not ever look at Kashmir. Now the indian govt should call for a all party meeting to discuss the further course of action. If the govt is to decide alone, it must remember that it is not going to work out. Unless we put diplomatic as well as external pressure, Pakistan is not going to give up such acts. Let foriegn deligates visit kashmir valley themselves to assess the situation. Pakistan is going to continue to play such games in future if it is not stopped now.if it doesn't understand, wipe Pakistan out totally.

Your Views:India has lost all possible opportunities to tame Pakistan, beginning from the 1971 war where India was in a tremendous bargaining positon to the recent Kargil war, when india could have tamed Pakistan. Unfortunately India missed on another great opportunity to teach Pakistan a lesson when there was a terrorist attack and the international opinion in favour of India.

Your Views:Many who have posted see war as the main option India has, this is unfortunate. War can only be success if the goals are very clear and justified. If the goal of this war is to stop infiltration of terrorists than it is a waste of resources, becoz this will only give a chance to the mullahs to raise more jihadis and send them on a suicide trip to India, this will simply exacerbate the problem and create more enemies. The root problem is the Kashmir issue. I feel the time has come for the govt to declare a Kashmir policy and solve the issue once for all diplomatically only. It is not that India is blameless in this, after the 1971 war there was a period of 18 years where India could have improved the conditions in JK and brought it closer to the nation, but it's policies and politics only alienated the people there and so terrorism took birth around 1989. India's over dependence on Abdullahs who don't have a popular support is one of the reasons. Our complicity is evident as the mention of the K-word sends our govt into a tizzy. We should set our house right before we decide on any adventure in the border. Please find a solution for Kashmir issue, we cannot escape it.

Your Views:India should learn to take its own decisions and finish for once and all by declaring real war on terrorism even if it draws Pakistan on a war with us. Millions more are dying without an actual (nuclear) war. God save the brave.

Your Views:I think that Indian government and politicians are just worried about their kursi. They dont loose anything when a civilian or soldier dies because it is not their life. If a few politicians would have died in Dec 13 attack, story would have been different. We need someone like Jagmohan to clean up the terrorism, Farookh Abdullah and Co. know only to shout a lot and shed the crocodile tears. The solution to this is in long term is creation of employment in the valley, removal religious extremism which leads to hatred among the people and education. Mullahs and Pandits should not be allowed to take over the politics. We should not expect anything from US as they will do what will benefit them. We should have a pro-active approach, should not be asking other nations for what should we be doing and be firm. Some military action is required against Pak if needed. We cannot bleed forever just because of threat of nuclear war. it is better to die once than bleeding for all life. Ask those poeple who live on the border. Urban people and NRIs find the war difficult to digest but they must start thinking about the people who face the wrath of terrorism daily.

Your Views:Since Independence, Kashmir has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan. 3 wars were fought and Pakistan tasted defeat all the 3 times but we couldn't take back Kashmir. On the other side, dialogue yielded no result. Militancy is a problem India is facing and if India doesn't counter it, who else would? Why do Indians believe that Musharaff wud control the infiltration activities when he has everything to lose in the process. The primary responsibility of Indian government is to protect its citizens from militant attacks and if the solution is to blast the militant camps, go ahead and do it rather than stationing soldiers on the LOC. India is not trying to invade any country here, it is trying to protect its people from militant activities and in the process, attacking the militant camps is justifiable. Why say that there are so many militants waiting across the border to infiltrate into India, if Indian government knows the location, go ahead and drop a bomb on them. It is now or never for India.

Your Views:yes it appears that Mr. Vajpayee is postponing the war just close to the next General Elections, so that two birds can be hit with one strike! Not that I am toeing the line of selfish Congress but in a sense war is inevitable...but the question remains when?? Till then how many innocent lives will be lost? How many pilgrims to be offered as a scapegoats, only in order to get our attack of Pakistan vetted by both domestic and international intellectuals? Surprisingly Mrs Sonia Gandhi blamed our govt for the recent massacre of innocent Hindus, instead of blaming Pakistan. Congress is playing politics and its dirty secular game even at the cost human rights

Your Views:The only way remaining with India is war. Not of type they fought previously, where at the crucial time of victory they showed mercy to the Pakistanis. Unless the kashmir is the integral part of Pakistan and Pakistan an interal part of india, this will continue. So Kashmir should be give to Pakistan and whole of Pakistan should be merged with India.

Your Views:The solution to the problem in Kashmir should not be war. There is no doubt that as long as Pakistan continues its support and supply of terror, there is going to be trouble and lives will be lost. But, there can be no peace if local population does not want it. The stress should be on development and providing livelihood to the people. Instead of wasting money in switching capitals between Jammu and Srinagar, the state should use it to open more avenues for education and industrialisation. The people there should be made to feel and be proud to be part of India.

Your Views:The question posed is war with Pakistan now the only way out ? Before we think of the answer we must what is the meaning of "way out". Are we thinking of avoiding killings or deaths? in that case deaths can never be avoided .If we are interested in changing the attitudes of the killers our sympathy is to the killers rather than those killed. So we must think in terms of reforming the killers. This can be done only by love and affection and not by war. We all know war bring about more deaths than which are happening now. We should not spread the message of war through politicians .we should spread the message of love by good thinkers who are also good religious leaders. We should even make good mothers and sisters to talk and spread the message of love between humans. No other method would be successful and other methods have failed. Let us try this with all sincerity.

Your Views:I Think this is the only way to tackle the ongoing situation because Pakistan is not going to give up it's Kashmir policy unless forced by some "big powers." Pakistan has suffered enough on this Kashmir stand. But someone has to force Pakistan to stop exporting terrorist's into India and dismantle all terrorist infrastructure that Pakistan has built up in it's acquired land & in his country.

Your Views:War is not the answer to the problems we face with Pakistan. why not make Pakistan, one time our own national part and parcel, understand that nation building is not an easy job. Destruction of national wealth is colossal loss, at least for India if not for Pakistan. it is also true that pakistan cannot be a straight nation unless democracy in its true form is re-introduced keeping militia under wraps. Although whole india is burning from terrorist activities, the part which most affected is J&K. innocents are butchered day in and day out. I think it is time that we take assistance of third country to resolve J&K issue and impress upon Pak that they should halt cross border terrorism first and at the same time try what best solution can be found out. in my opinion time has come we should along with Pakistan seek third party assistanace to this contentious issue. For this we must seek help of united nation secretary general.

Your Views:Indian diplomacy so far has stood for "restraint"... this has proved costly to us. We should have crippled Pakistan permanently in 1965 itself. Unfortunately we have been blessed with weak leaders incapable of exercising any stern action. Our parliament is attacked, 30,000 have died so far in Kashmir...what were we waiting for? We should go for limited action at least in PoK to destroy terrorist camps. We should kill all the captured terrorists. Had we killed the guys we let go in Kandahar, it would have been good. The policy for curb terrorism is to shoot them mercilessly.. no taking them as prisoners.. ban all Kashmir separatist orgs (moderate as well). Kill that JKLF leader.. go for complete cleansing of the valley... remove Abdullah from CM (he is another separatist in disguise)... in short if we let our stupid "tolerance" take over .. Kashmir is doomed to fall to Paki talibans... It's late for an all out war..but at least kill the criminals. I wish we were a presidential democracy and not have a bunch of jokers running our country ...

Your Views:Yes, I feel war is the only way out of getting rid of these Pakistani idiots. It's been really long time our people have been suffering from the rash attacks time and again. No doubt, peace is the best solution for solving any kind of problem, but we must keep in mind if one is peaceful and the other is of destructive mind, there would be no tie up between the two. Ours is a peace loving country and we have also made efforts for solving this POK matter but of no use. We suffered a lot, our country suffered a lot. But now we do not have to be on the path of Gandhiji and give our cheek for second slap, but we have to follow tit for tat policy. Pak is a country that is jealous of our progress. They are continuously sending militants to our country and disturbing the peace. Moreover, they have attacked our Parliament also. Our Govt. has to take stern action against Pakistan keeping in view its world relationships.

Your Views:We are really fed up of the routine statements from the PM " yeh acchi baat nahi hain", "sabr ke seema par ho gayi hain" .. etc. Its high time now to revise the policy towards Jammu and Kashmir and mobilise the army for the war. "Better late than never". I think every Indian is fed up of this issue and always support a decisive action to be taken as soon as possible. We need to stop asking for others sympathy in this matter and use our existing potential to put an end to this matter. The warning bell has been already rung, it's time to wake up and make up for all the follies that we have committed in the past and get ready for a firm and decisive blow.
