An all-party meeting on Monday rejected the Election Commission move to implement the Supreme Court directive asking candidates to disclose their antecedents, instead asking the government to bring out a comprehensive legislation to 'curb criminalisation of politics' and 'bring in probity in public life'.
Are the politicians correct, or is this just an attempt to ensure that `tainted' candidates are not debarred?

are being ruled by ass****s. Not only that, this indicates that destructive unity is too much and the criminals are widespread in politics. I think before making any law there should be the consent of the intellectuals in that field, it is advisable to get the consent of the constituency before any politician supports any decision (though it is little difficult in present situation). It
is a waste to write scolding these buggers....

the only issue of protecting them not the common man. There are many important
issues which are not discussed in the legislative offices. We must impose fine
on those leaders who are wasting the time by walkouts or causing interruptions.
These people got time to think about the SC directive. We must have the
information of the leader before electing the leader. The voter must
have the right to know, whether he is electing a good or illicit person. By rejecting the directives from SC, the political leaders are proving their illicit nature. Do you keep any dishonest, illegal person as your security person? At last they showed their true colour. Beware of the bad politicians. They are dangerous than what ever you know. Fellow Indians, Try to save your self from these bad politics. God, Save our country from these political creatures. to read and write. and then try and understand the law. Lawmakers don't know how
to even write. All they know is how to make money and make profit for
themselves. I personally think that all parties have to field anti social
elements in the elections for money and power. It's a simple equation. he who has most money has most power and vice versa. so its a vicious cycle. the president, Abdul Kalam, needs to dissolve the Lok Sabha literally with acid. all those who are illiterate should be sent to school and etiquette classes. monthly expense accounts should be published and audited by the CAG. legislation to punish bureaucrats without permission should be promulgated. Are they above the law? Politicians who have cases pending should be debarred. if the party refuses to comply, ban the party. Simple. Contempt of court. That's what it is called.
jailed inmates should not be allowed to even near a polling booth let alone win
an election. Basically start a new order and rebuild this society which stinks
and makes people want to run away. Jai Hind.

shameless self-aggrandizement in which our politicians have been indulging for
so long. The politicians who otherwise fight street fights in our legislatures on "matters of principles" disrupting their working for days on end have no problems in reaching all party agreements on things like Pays & Perks of
legislators. How one wishes the same convergence of ideas occurs when real issues of real national interest come up before them! But before we start screaming murder let's turn inward & do some introspection. Why has this sorry state of affairs has come about? Why do the politicos think they can literally get away with murder once elections are over? Simply because we let them. Whether thru' classical Indian stoicism or plain lethargy or the 'What is it to me?' syndrome; we as people don't care anymore. Because we don't stand up and make them accountable. doesn't have sufficient number of "clean" people, it can find ways to recruit
new people from the masses, for after all, the vast majority of the population
does not have a criminal record, and can be trusted to have clean income/asset

simply want to cling to it forever. If anything, the political parties are

That is the curse of Indian democratic system. (This situation is much severe in

Now we have at least one destiny to knock at by way of our judiciary, but once that's allowed to be toppled, people will also lose their faith in our judiciary system which could bring in more serious consequences. Especially when we undergo such an unstable situation. Should we allow these illiterate politicians to overpower or judicial system? Its the right of every Indian to have 'clean' candidates to choose from and hence its the duty of the commission to screen out tainted politicians and criminals from the system. It is time the people of this country stand up and get counted. We should not any longer allow these politicians to further ruin the country. The EC's recommendations, based on the Supreme Courts verdict, is something that is essential if democracy in its true sense is to continue. Criminals should be kept out. in the present context. It is a fact that the legislature has a right to make
laws and this legislature consists of the elected representatives. In the
present case, one has to look into the pros and cons of the amendments which are
to be brought into the Peoples Representation Act. I am sure that a politician
belonging any political party starting from a grass root level worker to the
Minister will have faced some kind of the legal battle, whether the same being a
genuine case or frivolous one. One should remember that the recourse to law is
taken by those people especially in political arena to score political vendetta
and has nothing to do with brining the culprits to book. Such being the case,
the amendements sought suggested by the Election Commissions will be used more as a political weapon by the unscrupulous people to see that a deserving person is also not able to contest the election by filing a false complaint against him on the eve of election. The constitution of India is supreme and giving powers to the returning officers to accept or reject the nomination papers is not sustainable in large democracy.

left parties have also joined the brigade of corrupt political leaders. No
political party is honest enough to obey law of court. All corrupt politicians
are part of country's highest governing body. And we elect them year after year
by ignoring the real their nature. But there is one more disgusting fact is that
there is no leadership available that is clean and honest.

Views:What balderdash! If the collective political class had an image
of pristine purity in the minds of the public at large, the motives behind such
reasoning would have been above suspicion. It is, however, sadly true that the
junta, by and large, has lost faith in the integrity, probity and honesty of the
leaders who adorn the political spectrum of our country today. The alternative
proposed in lieu of the Supreme Court directive is nothing but a desperate
attempt to enable tainted and corrupted politicos to cling to their 'gaddis' and
the consequent power and affluence that flows from chairs in high office.

a voter) who the candidates are, his education, or his ability, for me to
choose the representative. Why the hell they are not letting us to know the
details of the candidate? It clearly shows that they still want the illiterate to play the role, but still the time is not far off and much changes have taken
place during last 50 years so it will be like that one day nobody will want to become MPs or MLAs.

Views:I think this is another attempt by political parties to field
their tainted candidates. If they are so serious about avoiding criminalisation
of politics then what is the problem in accepting the election commission's
guidelines regarding this. I seriously think that politician or parliament must
be striped of power of making legislation that directly or indirectly affects
their lives. What kind of logic is this, that the people are making the laws for
their own lives. It is just ridiculous. People in parliament making the rule for
us to follow which they have broken all their lives and will do so in future as
well.

Views:Wait and Watch. More often than not, the politicians try to
save their skin. So this too may be seen as an attempt to ensure that 'tainted'
candidates are not debarred. But, considering the fact that, even the statesmen
like Vajapayeeji, Advaniji and others too feel the same and agree with the
opinion expressed at the all-party meeting, this needs to be given time before
we jump to conclusion. It is better to wait and watch. The misuse of the SC directive can not be ruled out.

Views:What's happening in our nation is incorrect. There is absolutely
no deterrent as far as the legal system is concerned. You will find corruption
at every level and people seem to have forgotten to respect law. Partially the
law makers and politicians are to be blamed. We need to device a mechanism that
precludes these perpetrators/violators and punish them. Firstly the directive of
the Supreme Court has to be adhered with, otherwise they need not contest any
election. Candidates who have objection in submitting their antecedents should
not be permitted to contest any election and if they are holding any positions
should be asked to withdrawn. They should be debarred from contesting any
further elections. There need to be a deterrent, otherwise things will never
work in this nation.

same. They are all a waste and colossal loss to the nation. No one is above law.
They should follow the guidelines given by Supreme Court. Why did they take
more than 50 years to enact some Electoral reforms? Such politicians are a waste
for the national resources.

requirement to amend law by law maker, but law in constitution is highly right
since it was made by intellectuals. So in this situation, law maker is not above the
law.
