Militants set fire to bridge in J&K's Doda district

In yet another attempt to disrupt vital communication links in Jammu and Kashmir, militants on Thursday set fire to a bridge in Doda district, official sources said in Jammu.

Militants destroyed a wooden bridge in remote Atholi area of the district, used mostly by security men for movement from Kishtwar, the sources said.

They said the attack was apparently aimed at snapping communication for security personnel engaged in anti-insurgency operations in this belt.

This is the third attack on communication links in Jammu division since the last two weeks, where one bridge in Darhal area and another in Surankote were damaged in IED explosions, the sources said.

Besides this, security personnel had detected explosives planted under three small bridges in Rajouri and Poonch districts used by troops moving to the border, they said.

Militants also set fire to six residential houses in Mendhar area on Wednesday night, the sources said adding these houses had been vacated by Rashtriya Rifles troops some time back.

So far, 37 such houses vacated by security forces have been destroyed by militants in Rajouri-Poonch sectors during the last fifteen days, they added.
