Indo-Pak border tension may be
easing: Blackwill

The United States Ambassador to India, Robert Blackwill, said on Tuesday that tension between India and Pakistan might have started easing, especially after New Delhi made it clear that it preferred a diplomatic solution to the border issue.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai, he said the US was genuinely concerned and was ready to assist both the countries in whatever possible manner to ease the tension.

President Pervez Musharaff's speech on January 12 asserting that his government would not allow terrorism to emanate from Pakistani territory, the Indian response to the same and the recent visit of US Secretary of State Colin Powell to both the countries would be helpful in easing tension, Blackwill said.

"We are hopeful of an early solution," he said.
