US reopens Karachi consulate at secret location

The United States reopened its consulate in Karachi at a secret location on Friday, following a car bombing and repeated threats, the consulate's public affairs officer, Lonney Kelley, said. The consulate's telephone numbers remain the same.

"We are finishing the move from our main consulate building to a new makeshift location," Kelley said. He refused to reveal the new location for security reasons.

A car bombing outside the old building in downtown Karachi on June 14 had killed at least 12 Pakistanis. Three Islamic militants have been arrested for the attack and police are looking for six other suspects.

Police say the attack was the handiwork of the outlawed Harkatul Mujahideen al-Almi.
