Musharraf in Beijing for consultations

Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf arrived in Beijing on Thursday night for a 'transit visit' to apprise the Chinese leadership about Indo-Pak tensions and discuss bilateral and regional issues of common concern.

"Musharraf will meet with a top Chinese leader on Friday morning before leaving for home," the official Xinhua news agency reported without revealing the name of the Chinese leader.

Diplomatic sources said Musharraf is likely to meet Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

The Pakistani president arrived in Beijing in a special plane after concluding state visits to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
