Pakistan on Monday sought to equate the Palestinian cause with the Kashmir issue and asked Islamic countries to intervene in settling the differences between Islamabad and New Delhi.
"Palestine in the Middle East and Kashmir in South Asia represent the oldest problems where people are being denied their most fundamental rights of freedom and dignity and are subjected to state terrorism," Interior Minister Lieutenant General Moinuddin Haider said at the special session of the Organisation of Islamic Conference Foreign Ministers on Terrorism.
"The tragedy of Palestine and Kashmir must end. The world must act to heal these wounds. Solutions must be found in accordance with international norms and the time honoured principle of respect for the wishes of the people," he said.
Stating that OIC had a direct stake in seeking a just settlement of these issues, Haider said: "As we continue the fight against terrorism along with the rest of the international community, we must also demand justice for the oppressed people of Palestine and Kashmir."
On the post September 11 scenario, he stressed the need to analyse the direction that the campaign against terrorism must adopt and the position that the OIC countries need to take in the defence of their collective interest.
