Eleven militants, including two Pakistani intruders, and a security jawan were among 12 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where militants blasted a police vehicle and targeted an army camp with rockets.

Unidentified militants attacked the Chitargam-Zainapora branch of the Central Cooperative Bank, in Shopian area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, on Tuesday and decamped with Rs.150,000, a police spokesman said.

He said four unidentified militants were killed in an ongoing operation at hill Kaka in Surankote sector of Poonch district in Jammu region on Tuesday.

Militants intruded into the house of one Atta-Ullah Khan at Behrote in Balakote sector of the same district and shot him dead early on Tuesday, the spokesman said.

Two Pakistani intruders were killed in an encounter with security forces while attempting to sneak into the Kashmir valley from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (Pok) via Machil in Kupwara district early on Tuesday, official sources said in Srinagar.

They said the army had laid ambushes on the possible infiltration routes along the Line of Control (LoC) and noticed militants making an attempt to sneak under the cover of darkness.

The militants were challenged and killed in the ensuing shootout. Two AK assault rifles and some ammunition were recovered from them, the sources added.

They said three militants were killed in the ongoing operation at Rangwar in Kupwara district on Monday night.

Security forces shot dead two militants in separate encounters in Kupwara district on Tuesday. Further details of the encounters were awaited, the sources said.

Panic gripped Naaz crossing in uptown Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon when militants targeted a police vehicle wounding a cop and causing damage to the vehicle, the sources added.
