British diplomat meets Hurriyat leaders

A British diplomat on Wednesday met two Hurriyat Conference leaders at the Kashmir Awareness Bureau in New Delhi and discussed the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

First Secretary (political) David Qurrey of the British High Commission met Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat and senior executive leader of the amalgam Mirwaiz Umer Farooq for 90-minutes, Hurriyat insiders said.

The Hurriyat chairman told the British diplomat that the root cause of the violence in J&K needs to be addressed.

Sources said during the meeting, the two sides also discussed the present situation in Afghanistan and the growing resentment among some militant outfits in the Kashmir valley against the United States-led air strikes on Afghanistan.

Later in the evening, the two leaders attended a dinner meeting hosted by Pakistani High Commissioner Ashraf Jehangir Qazi at his residence.

The two leaders will also hold meetings with the envoys of the European Union from Thursday onwards.
