At least 20 people were injured on Monday in violence and protests against the attacks by the United States and Britain on terrorist targets in Afghanistan, bringing normal life to a standstill in parts of Srinagar.
Angry youths shouting religious slogans came out on the streets in the city's up and down town areas early on Monday morning and indulged in heavy stone pelting on passing vehicles.
Police had a tough time in controlling the situation and had to use tear gas and batons to disperse the stone throwing youths in Maisuma, Bohri Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Nallah Mar, Bab Demb and other localities.
Shopkeepers, who had opened their shops, immediately downed their shutters and the streets were deserted for a while.
Authorities said that security has been tightened in the entire city and other towns.
Police and paramilitary forces have been rushed to all the sensitive areas to maintain law and order.
