Sixteen Pakistani bunkers were destroyed in retaliatory shelling and firing by Indian troops along Line of Control in Poonch sector late on Tuesday night, official sources said on Wednesday.

Pakistan troops -- across Poonch river -- resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling on the Indian positions along LoC, the sources said.

In the retaliatory action by the Indian troops, sixteen bunkers, nine of which were high altitude bunkers fitted with heavy weaponry and mortar guns, were damaged.

The sources added a large number of casualties were feared from across the border.

Intermittent firing and mortar shelling also took place along LoC in Kerni, Krishna gati, Mendhar, Laam, Bhawani, Bhimbergali, Nousherah and Pallanwala area in Rajouri-Poonch sector, from across the border, the sources said.

Two gujjars (nomadic tribe) were injured in Pakistani firing at Laam-Bhawanih areas of Rajouri and were hospitalised.

Pakistan rangers increased their firing on villages and border outposts along the international border in Samba, Hiranagar where troops also exchanged fire with them till Wednesday morning, the sources said, adding a girl was injured in Kote Kuba area along the international border and was hospitalised.
