Musharraf ready to meet Vajpayee in Nepal: spokesman

Pakistan on Saturday said President Pervez Musharraf was ready to meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the forthcoming SAARC summit in Kathmandu, Nepal, next year.

"We are ready to meet," Pakistan's Information Secretary Anwar Mehmood said when asked about Vajpayee's statement earlier on Saturday that he was willing to hold talks with Musharraf on the sidelines of the SAARC meeting.

"We could meet," Vajpayee told reporters in New Delhi.

Mahmood described the statement as positive. "We have always said that the dialogue process between India and Pakistan should continue. Pakistan considers it as a positive step."

The SAARC summit is due to be held on January 4-6 in Kathmandu.

Besides India and Pakistan, SAARC, formed in 1985, comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
