One woman killed, eight others injured in J&K explosion

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

One woman was killed and eight persons, including six army personnel, were injured in a massive explosion on Monday in Sangrama in northern Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Two officers - Maj Sikka and Maj Nair - were among the injured.

Police said an Improvised Explosive Device, mounted on a bicycle, exploded near a vehicle of the 22 Rashtriya Rifles injuring six army personnel and three civilian by-standers.

The woman, Syeda Bano, was among the injured. She succumbed to her injuries.

Maj Sikka, Maj Nair and four army personnel, who were in a critical condition, were air-lifted to the Base Hospital in Srinagar.
