Sanjay Dutt is not prime witness in Shah case

Sheela Bhatt in Bombay

"Sanjay Dutt is just one of the witnesses in the Bharat Shah case. He is corroborating our evidence. And Shah Rukh Khan has given us some evidence against Naseem Rizvi," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Sawant of the Crime Branch of the Bombay Police.

He also added that, "Dutt cannot be our prime witness simply because our prime witness has seen Shah talking to Shakeel. We would not like to release more details of him."

There have been reports in the last few days of Dutt's alleged connection and his role in the investigation in the Bharat Shah case.

Sawant told rediff.com, "Journalists are reporting the court proceedings in the Shah case and stitching stories from Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian's arguments."

"If Sanjay also spoke to Chhota Shakeel as alleged by defence lawyers in the Shah case, why has he not been arrested?"

Sawant said, "What's important is the nature of the talk. If there is an offence then we arrest people."
