Four persons, including an Army major and a soldier of the Rashtriya Rifles, were killed in a fierce gun battle with militants on Friday night.
Major Anshu Saxena who led his unit against the militants, was seriously injured in the night-long encounter at village Vilgam in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning, seniors officials told rediff.com.
Two militants also died in the gun battle.
