All political parties near unanimous
on Kashmir issue: Pant

Pant had been meeting representatives of political parties after his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir as the Centre's negotiator.

"It is a healthy development as representatives of all political parties I have met so far have been appreciative of the peace moves and have been unanimous on the Kashmir issue," Pant told reporters in Delhi after meeting representatives from the Samajwadi Party and Akali Dal.

Pant said his aim was to take the next step in consultation with all political parties.

Lauding Pant's efforts, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said, "This is a sensitive issue and no diversion of views among the political parties should emerge on Kashmir."

Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said, "Kashmir issue is not anybody's personal problem and the government should refrain from conducting any political experiment with the situation over there."

"A concerted and a joint approach would lead to an everlasting solution to the problem," he added.

Singh also welcomed the announcement about Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee holding consultations with all opposition parties before his summit talks with Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
