In the first major incident since the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir was called off, security forces Friday shot dead seven Afghan militants belonging to Al-Badr group while they were trying to sneak into Poonch district.
Elsewhere in the state, 13 people, including 10 militants, were killed, an army major was wounded and 15 kgs of RDX were seized since Thursday evening.
In a joint operation lasting three hours, army and police gunned down the seven mercenaires while they were trying to infiltrate into Poonch near Loran Mandi, a defence spokesman said.
He said documents recovered from them indicated they were of Afghan origin.
Five AK rifles, an RPG with four rockets, an under barrel grenade launcher along with 13 grenades, 18 hand grenades and four IEDs were recovered from the scene.
