Militants killed more Indian security personnel and civilians during the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, a minister said on Tuesday.
The period between May 27 and November 27 last year saw 1,672 incidents of violence. As compared to this, the number of violent incidences between November 19 -- the day when the ceasefire was announced -- to May 31 this year, were 2,142.
During this period, the number of civilians killed increased from 435 to 461 and the number of security personnel from 223 to 266, Minister of State for Home Affairs Vidyasagar Rao told the Lok Sabha.
Rao said that after the withdrawal of the ceasefire, the security forces had launched "a vigorous counter-terrorism campaign against the terrorists".
The minister replied in a separate query that Pakistani troops had attempted to damage iron pickets of the fencing along the Jammu international border and also resorted to unprovoked firing.
