Pak 'impressed' by PM's
remarks on J&K: PTI

Pakistan said on Thursday that it was "impressed" by Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's New Year-eve musings on Kashmir and expressed confidence that the two countries would begin a purposeful dialogue in the near future.

"Pakistan has taken due note of the statements in India, especially by Vajpayee on the eve of new year. We are impressed by what Vajpayee has said and hope a dialogue will begin between the two countries in the near future," Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar told Pakistan Television after attending a meeting of National Security Council

The council, he said, discussed the prospects of dialogue with India for a durable settlement of the Kashmir issue in consultations with Hurriyat Conference and "in conformity with the wishes of Kashimiri people."

Vajpayee had in the first part of his "musings" during his year-end holiday in Kerala said India was prepared to resume talks with Pakistan at the highest level provided Islamabad was sincere in creating a conducive atmosphere.
