'Abducted' Jammu girl found in Indore

Teenaged girl Meenakshi, whose alleged abduction set off a wave of violent protests in Jammu region, was found by police in Indore on Sunday.

Meenakshi, 15, was found at the house of a city corporation employee at Anoop Nagar, Additional Superintendent of Police Baghwant Singh Chauhan said.

The girl was handed over to her father Nattha Singh and a two-member team of Jammu and Kashmir Monday evening after her medical check-up and recording of statement, Chauhan said.

The girl from Udhampur town went missing on February 9 and in protest against her alleged kidnapping Jammu and Udhampur towns were rocked by strikes, violence and arson.

Chauhan said the girl is "not revealing much."

According to Chauhan, Meenakshi said she was "kidnapped" on February 9 by four persons when she was going for tuition. The abductors abandoned her somewhere in Udhampur, she is believed to have told the police.
