The ship was recommissioned on March 4, 1961, as INS Vikrant. Her angled deck, steam catapult and landing mirrors were installed for operating jet aircraft. Later she was refitted for Sea Harrier operation in 1979-1982. During her 36 years of active duty, the Vikrant steamed 4,99,066 nautical miles... the equivalent of 15 times around the world! |
