As soon as Justice R Balasubramanian, who is hearing the appeals, took his seat, a copy of the apex court order was handed over to him, after which he adjourned the case and left the court.
Staying the ongoing hearing of the appeals, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice S P Bharucha, Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice Ashok Bhan on Thursday issued notices to the state CB-CID and Jayalalithaa on a petition, which sought transfer of the appeals to any other high court on the ground that the manner in which the hearings were conducted, it was 'impossible' to maintain fairness.
The petition was filed by former advocate general K V Venkatapathy, who had been appointed by the high court as special public prosecutor for the appeals.
