The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday removed Pakistani flags hoisted by separatists overnight at Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Rainawari and Jamia Masjid localities in Srinagar.
Pakistan celebrates it Independence Day on August 14.
Pakistani flags were also removed from some places in central Badgam and Kupwara districts and other places in south Kashmir.
Meanwhile, two Border Security Force personnel were seriously wounded when Pakistani troops opened fire in Jabbarwal in Ramgarh sector of Jammu region, on Tuesday. The BSF returned the fire.
Police sources said Assistant Commandant A John and soldier S S Vittal were immediately rushed to a hospital and their condition is said to be critical.
On the eve of Independence Day, the Kashmir valley is tense and security has been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident.
Paramilitary forces and J&K police personnel have been deployed in strength all over Srinagar.
They have occupied all high-rise buildings around the Bakshi stadium where the main I-Day function will be held. Heavily armed troops have laid a virtual siege around the stadium and all roads leading to it have been sealed.
For the past one week, troops have been combing the localities around the stadium and locals have been subjected to repeated identification parades.
All incoming vehicles and passers-by are thoroughly searched and frisked. Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service.
