The police resorted to a lathicharge and opened fire in the air after the mob ransacked some government buildings, court annexes, market places and damaged some buses, police officials said.
The officials said 12 people suffered minor injuries in the lathicharge.
In another incident, a group of youths in Rajouri town damaged some vehicles and clashed with the police, they said.
The district administration sought the help of the army in order to restore normalcy in the town and the troops later staged a flag march in the troubled areas.
Additional troops were deployed in the communally sensitive areas of the town to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, a bandh, called by the Shiv Sena to protest against Tuesday's killing, was observed in Thamandi, Sunderbani, Kalakote and Naushera areas.
