Militants gun down 3 NC workers

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Militants on Friday afternoon gunned down three prominent workers of the ruling National Conference, including a block president, in the Valley.

Police sources said militants on Friday afternoon shot at and killed Ghulam Mohamed Baba, block president of the National Conference, at Trangbal Pampore in southern Pulwama district. Baba, sources said, was returning after offering Friday prayers.

The police immediately rushed to the spot and mounted searches in the area.

In another incident, militants shot at and killed two prominent workers of the ruling NC from central Budgam district, including a block secretary at village Gundipora Beerwa in central Kashmir. Police sources said militants opened fire on the two from a close range and later escaped. Both Ghulam Mohamed Khan, the block secretary, and Farooq Ahmed, were sent to hospital. However, they succumbed to their injuries en route. No one has claimed responsibility for the killings.
