15 militants killed in Udhampur district

Fifteen militants, including seven belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit, were killed in three separate encounters with security forces in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night, official sources said in Jammu on Thursday.

On receiving specific information about the movement of militants in the Pir Panjal belt in Mahore area, security forces launched 'pre-winter operations' in Phagala, Deval Doke and Thinmarg Doke areas of Udhampur district, the sources said.

On coming across militants, security forces challenged them. The encounters followed continued late into the night, the sources said adding that troops killed four Pakistani ultras at Phagala, three at Deval Doke and eight at Thinmarg Doke.

The sources said seven of the slain militants belonged to the LeT outfit and two to the Jehad-e-Muslim.

Security forces also seized 13 AK rifles, 22 magazines, 2090 rounds of ammunition, seven pistols, 19 hand grenades, seven Improvised Explosive Devices, four rockets, 20 rifles grenades and a large quantity of explosive material from the slain militants, the sources added.
