Pak Rangers not to fire on civilians

Pakistani Rangers have agreed not to fire at civilians on the Indian side of the border on the request of the Border Security Force (BSF).

BSF Inspector General V N Rai told reporters in New Delhi on Monday that an understanding was reached during a four-day meeting between Pakistan Rangers and the BSF in Lahore last week.

There had been frequent incidents where Indian farmers were killed in firing from across the border, Rai said, adding that after the understanding there was no such incident.

He said the meeting between paramilitary forces of the two countries from November 20 to 23 was held in a cordial atmosphere and the Pakistani side was extremely hospitable.

During their stay in Pakistan, the BSF officers were also taken on a visit to Peshawar and the Khyber Pass.
