Nadeem to appear in British court in Nov

E-Mail this report to a friend

Paran Balakrishnan in London

Music director Nadeem Saifi will be back in a British court in November for a five-day hearing on whether he should be extradited to India to face charges of murder.

The court of appeals heard a brief submission by Nadeem's lawyers and ruled that the case will be heard from November 20.

The court ordered both sides to exchange documents and file submissions and affidavits to allow proceedings to continue unhampered.

A two-member division bench will hear the case.

Nadeem lost the first round of his appeal against extradition, which was heard by a magistrate in Bow Street, London.

He can make a final appeal to the House of Lords, where cases are heard by Britain's law lords. Some extradition cases have also been heard by the European court of justice.

The Bombay police want Nadeem in connection with the murder of music magnate Gulshan Kumar. He was in Britain when the Bombay police filed murder charges against him. He has not returned to India for three years since then.

In recent months, however, he has resumed composing and is now back in demand with Bombay's top movie moghuls.

Nadeem argued in the magistrate's court that the case against him "had not been put together properly" and that the witnesses could not be trusted. But the court did not accept his submissions.
